Nuozhadu Hydropower Plant Won the Tien-yow Jeme Civil Engineering Prize
 

On 3rdJune, 2018, the technical seminar and award ceremony of 15thTien-yow Jeme Civil Engineering Prize was held in Beijing. Among total 139 projects,30 won the prize. Nuozhadu HPP, which had been designed by KHIDI, also won Tien-yow Jeme Civil Engineering Prize.

Tien-yow Jeme Civil Engineering Prize is an award for outstanding technical innovation and application of new technology in the field of civil works. This prize, which was jointly set up by China Civil Engineering Society and Beijing Zhantianyou Development Foundation for Science and Technology in 1999, is a national top award, firstly approved by Ministry of Science and Technology and recognized by Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development of the People’s Republic of China.

Nuozhadu HPP is the 5th cascade hydropower plant in the middle and lower reaches of Lancang River. It is given the main task of power generation, in line with compressive utilization of flood control, improvement of navigation in downstream, irrigation, fishing, tourism and environmental protection as well. The installed capacity of the HPP is 5850MW, and average perennial energy output is 239.12×108KWH. The first unit of the HPP was put into service in August 2012, and the rest 9 units were in June 2014.Nuozhadu HPP won high praise from Tan Jingyi, the national academician who called it the Flawless Works for its good quality, successfully operation and new technology applied. The maximum height of the core rockfill dam is 261.5m, which is the highest dam built in China and is also the milestone project in the world. The serious subside of dam crest is 0.868m and the seepage flow is 5-20L/s by measurement, which are further less than other similar projects built home and abroad, which boost the technology of super height coredam construction in China.
